Sizwe Dhlomo and Gayton McKenzie Exchange Heated Words, Public Reaction Divided

Sizwe Dhlomo and Gayton McKenzie Exchange Heated Words, Public Reaction Divided

Media personality Sizwe Dhlomo and Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie recently engaged in a heated exchange on X (formerly Twitter), sparking widespread debate. The disagreement stemmed from Dhlomo’s criticism of McKenzie, accusing him of abandoning the Patriotic Alliance after being appointed as a minister in the Government of National Unity (GNU). McKenzie, in turn, refuted the claims, emphasizing his commitment to serving all South Africans regardless of political affiliation.

Social Media Clash Between Sizwe Dhlomo and Gayton McKenzie

The online dispute was initiated when a social media user, Siya Masilela, highlighted Dhlomo’s remarks, stating that the minister no longer referenced the Patriotic Alliance. This prompted a response from McKenzie, who clarified that his role as a minister extends beyond party lines.

“I am not a Patriotic Alliance Minister. I am a Minister for all South Africans, even for those who did not vote for me. Ministers should differentiate between their political party role and official state duty role,” McKenzie responded.

Dhlomo was quick to reply, suggesting that the minister was uninformed about governance. “Maybe you should listen to the show before commenting. By the way, you don’t know how government works either; you demonstrate that daily,” he stated.

Public Reaction to the Dispute

The exchange between the two public figures sparked mixed reactions online. Some social media users sided with Dhlomo, questioning McKenzie's performance as a minister, while others criticized the media personality for his remarks.

One user suggested that the two should settle their differences in a formal debate, while others expressed skepticism about McKenzie’s leadership.

Public Comments:

  • @lavidaNOTA: "Please have this debate on air."
  • @KeaBeezy: "It’s strange that someone who has never been in government is advising a minister on governance."
  • @oom_Chris: "I don’t recall McKenzie making any significant contributions in Parliament since becoming a minister."

Meanwhile, this is not the first time McKenzie has faced public scrutiny. Earlier this year, poet Ntsiki Mazwai accused him of favoritism, leading to legal threats and a subsequent apology from Mazwai.
